Hyperbaric Chamber (HBOT)

(HBOT) in sports has become more prevalent in today’s collegiate and professional realm. Mild HBO therapy provides a highly effective way to increase the volume of oxygen in the blood and thus increase the many beneficial effects that oxygen has on the body. It allows the body to get the oxygen it needs to create ATP for energy and flush out the lactic acid that causes muscle fatigue. The elevated oxygen levels help athletes increase performance and recover more quickly after a workout. Increased oxygen delivery to the brain facilitates brain function, and enhances an athlete’s ability to make split-second decisions that could be a difference in the outcome of a game.

A sports injury can be especially devastating for an athlete. Often, athletes re-injure themselves or make their conditions worse by attempting to return to full activity before their bodies have healed completely. Athletes sidelined because of injury can lose their standing in national rankings, or their place on a team. Because elite athletes have so much at stake, many have turned to mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed recovery.

The pressurized chamber in which athletes breathe pure oxygen, allows up to a tenfold increase in the oxygen level of the blood plasma and hemoglobin. The red blood cells become more malleable, increasing their ability to penetrate restricted blood vessels so that cells and tissues receive the oxygen they need to regenerate and heal. With hyperbaric treatment, a sprained ankle might recover in four days instead of eight; a bruised thigh could mend in one week, not three. Recovery time is reduced significantly, and athletes at all skill levels get back into play faster.

Cryotherapy

Cryotherapy is the process of exposing the body to hyper cool temperatures in order to elicit the natural healing process. Developed in Japan, in the 1970s, Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is used by professional athletes across the world to decrease recovery time and improve performance. Cryotherapy however is not just for athletes but also for ANY person seeking to recover from musculoskeletal pain, inflammation, surgery, and sleepless nights.

Spot Cryotherapy

Local or SPOT Cryotherapy is the process of blowing hyper cool air onto a specific area of discomfort.  It is used to reduce pain, inflammation, and swelling in targeted areas. Unlike Whole Body Cryotherapy, which stimulates cold receptors all over the body in order to trigger an internal SYSTEMIC anti-inflammatory response, SPOT Cryotherapy is similar to “icing”, although much more powerful and efficient.

Clients frequently combine SPOT Cryotherapy with Whole Body Cryotherapy to treat chronic problems and receive the fastest, most effective results.

Muscle contractions in the lower extremities and one-way valves in our veins create a natural pumping mechanism that helps circulate blood to the heart and directly to the muscles of the body. It also removes lactic acid and metabolites that are unwanted byproducts from muscle activity. After workouts, muscles become fatigued, tight and in some cases they even spasm. All these factors can limit circulation where you most need it, thereby slowing down recovery.

Our recovery program will include assessment of muscle and joint performance to identify problems that may lead to injury, i.e. tight muscle, stiff joints, and comprised motor control. Specific exercises maybe recommended to help prevent possible injuries. Treatment usually lasts 20 to 25 minutes and can be done 1x/week or 2x/week depending on the program.
